Kids Against Cancer Frequently Asked Questions
What is the concept behind the KAC Center?
The KAC Center is based on the simple belief that laughter is the best medicine…that smiles, happiness and positive energy promote healing from the inside out. The concept is to provide cutting-edge treatment to children with cancer in a setting that is far removed from their disease. The atmosphere will be upbeat and fun, and an aura of hope and optimism will be evident throughout the center.
What will be featured in the recreational center?
This unique, child-friendly environment will include playrooms filled with toys, a tot lot, movie theater, open gym for group activities, indoor playground, indoor pool, multi-media room with a fireplace, miniature golf course, and an arcade with Skee Ball, pinball and all the latest games. There will also be landscaped gardens, nature walks, reading areas, a chapel, and beautiful spaces for private reflection. Throughout the year, talented KAC volunteers will run and/or supervise special programs, games, and other entertainment for the children.
Who is welcome to participate at the KAC Center?
Do you need to receive treatment at the center to utilize the recreational areas? The recreational activities will be available to all children who have been diagnosed with cancer, regardless of whether or not they get their treatments at our center…and regardless of where they live.
Why is the KAC Center different from a hospital or other treatment center?
Many hospitals offer state-of-the-art health care, while many cancer facilities offer comfort and a convenient place for the children and their families to stay during treatment. The KAC Center adds the healing power of "fun". It will be a place where the atmosphere itself will enhance recovery while stimulationg the healing of the mind, body and spirit.
